This was the first such award given in the company's history.

Crown Life Insurance Company, McLean, VA (4/80-4/83) Assistant Supervisor, Claims. Processed medical, dental, accident, disability benefit, and worker's compensation claims on IBM 8775 Computer Terminal. Position required daily contact with agents, claimants, policyholders, physicians, and estate attorneys. Specialized in medical claims requiring detailed investigative procedures (i.e. EOB, TOB, Pre-exiting, etc.). Was responsible for check approval up to $10,000 per check. Used Western Union telex, Micom word processor and Savin copier.

During a period of unusually high backlogged claims, developed a computer claims processing sheet which simplified calculation methods of claims so examiners could enter correct calculations of claims for input into terminal by non-examiner clerical help. This method helped examiners increase production of completed claims and dramatically decreased backlog. Because of the simplicity of this new calculation method and computer input, I worked out an agreement to work from my home office. Twice weekly appeared at office to pick up and/or return banker boxes of completed claims for clerical input into computer.
